Welcome to the Decatur Area Music Teachers Association (DAMTA) of Illinois!

We are a group of music teachers who live/work in Decatur, Illinois or within a fifty-mile radius. We meet once a month during the academic year at Millikin University to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Sharing related problems and current trends in music education.
  2. Establishing a professional code of ethics and standard of music teaching.
  3. Elevating the status of the music teacher in the community.

We offer several performance opportunities for our students through yearly Achievement in Music (AIM) exams, a Duet Festival, and Music Camp Scholarship auditions.

We are one of eighteen chapters of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association (ISMTA), which in turn belongs to the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), one of the oldest professional music organizations in the United States. By joining our group, you automatically become part of a network that includes about 22,000 music teachers all over the United States.

We invite you to take a look at our site, and to contact us with any questions you might have. We look forward to hearing from you!
